Proof66 Notes

A.D. Laws Four Grain Bourbon is aged for at least 3 years prior to bottling (a bit on the younger side of bourbon but qualifying for the "straight bourbon" label). The "four grain" is a reference to the four types of grain in the bill: 60% corn (bourbon must be at least 50%), 20% wheat, 10% rye, and 10% barley. This suggests to us a kind of "wheated bourbon," though the presence of barley and rye would trouble people sensitive to these types of labels.

Gargoyle Enterprises is the company formed behind the Laws Whiskey House named for founder Al Laws (they prefer the term "whiskey house" because they felt "distillery" didn't quite capture their intent). It is located in Denver, Colorado and considers itself a "grain to glass" distillery in that they perform and control aspects of production from grinding grain, to fermenting, to distilling, to bottling (commonly, distilleries will outsource one or more of those processes). They use traditional 53-gallon barrels and name the farms from which they purchase their grain. They believe the altitude and climate of Colorado naturally improves and accelerates the aging process.
