Proof66 Notes

Ainsley Brae is a line of scotch whisky bottled to celebrate the cask (though not the aging). They claim to strive and find the best barrels that provide the maximum depth in flavor. The scotch itself is bottled by Alexander Murray & Company, blended and bottled from a variety of sources (we list them as the source owing to the long tradition of independent scotch bottling though Alexander Murray is a relatively new company). We have no idea, at this time, what "ainsley brae" means.

Ainsley Brae Highland Burgundy is a single malt scotch (undisclosed source) suggesting a peat smoke and "temperamental" flavor. There is no age statement (alas!) but a finish in burgundy wine casks, an unusual finish that will doubtless add some color and character to the whisky. They suggest looking for flavor notes of ginger and apple among others.

Alexander Murray is a bottling company that often works in the private label market and special editions of a variety of distilleries. The company was founded in 2004 and is actually located in southern California founded by Steve Lipp, who was born in Scotland and claims to bring a lifetime of scotch experience to the company. The company is named for Lipp's great uncle Alexander Murray, who was born into the scotch market beginning as a producer of malted barley.

A bargain! The red wine comes through easily, and the earthiness of red Burgundies cuts the sweetness beautifully. This makes for a nice every day sipper.
