Proof66 Notes

Angel's Envy launched itself as a company as well as this whiskey in 2012. The bourbon is the work of Lincoln Henderson, who is said to have come out of retirement from a former career at Jack Daniels and Woodford Reserve in order to "create the world's finest bourbon on his own terms." With complete discretion, Henderson uses non genetically modified Kentucky grain and ages the spirit for 4 to 6 years in American oak--oak being required for bourbon. It is given an additional resting for 3 to 6 months in port wine casks--which is a bit unusual in the bourbon world (though rather more common for scotch). This gives the whiskey nuances and complexities along with a "rich amber hue." The bottle itself is made from "perfume quality" Italian glass. The name is a play on the concept of the angel's share, which is that amount lost to evaporation during aging. (from the 2012 press release)

This is the cask strength limited edition--only 600 bottles in 2013--bottled right from the barrel at 123+ proof.

Angels Envy bourbon was originally owned and managed by the Louisville Distilling Corporation, itself run by Lincoln Henderson and his son Wesley but was acquired by Bacardi in March of 2015. The label has recently become embroiled in the recent lawsuits over truth in labeling... while bottled in Kentucky the spirit itself is made in Indiana at MGP.
