Proof66 Notes

Baker's bourbon is part of the "small batch bourbon collection," intended to compete on the premium side of handcrafted bourbons. These "small batches" are founded on traditional recipes. The Baker's Bourbon is aged 7 years in American oak and comes in at a very high proof and named for Baker Beam (grandson of Jim Beam).

This gotta be the bourbon with most fruit-forward smell than any other i've encountered. Along with the fruity flavor has caramel and nutty taste to it. Its not bad, but this is not a very complex bourbon and i would reach for many others before this one.

I can totally see what scollings wrote about this being a bourbon that's appealing to brandy drinkers; it's very fruity (for a bourbon) on the nose, palate, and finish. The rest of this bourbon's characteristics seem somewhat similar to the Jim Beam Black. I really like the idea of a fruity bourbon, and I wished I liked this one, but there's a distractingly noticeable sour note that's present in this one that seems to intensify as you move through the palate to the finish. Unfortunately, this one is my least favorite of the Beam small batch collection.

Oh, what a disappointment this bottle is. Beam White was my brand all through college, and then Beam Black when it came out. I've tried for three months to like this Bourbon. It's just not going to happen. I have read that Brandy drinkers were supposed to love this particular bottle. I can see that, as this is the Hennessy of the Bourbon world; all heat and flavors up front, with no middle or finish. Bookers, while at a much higher proof, is easily the better bottle.

4/5, nice rich bourbon! Solid bourbon, like a more commercial booker's. little lower proof, nice flavor, a little sweet, but good!

Earthy and nutty (peanut brittle and toffee?) on the nose. The taste is likewise nutty and spicy, with enough heat to make you wake up and pay attention. There's some vanilla sweetness in there, but mostly dry overall. A complex, distinctive bourbon that demands to be sampled again. This is a very nice, classy bourbon. It comes in at a very high proof. It has a big oak aroma and then comes in with a high, spicy note that I'd swear was a big rye kick. Could be wrong, though.

One needs a plan taking this bourbon. It demands sipping. It's good but it's missing the giant, individualistic notes that mark a truly great bourbon.
