Proof66 Notes

The Balblair 2003 vintage was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon American Oak barrels and said to have the signature barrel notes of toffee, butterscotch, and vanilla.

The Balblair Distillery was founded by John Ross in 1790 and thus claims title to the "second oldest [legal]working distillery in Scotland." The word "balblair" is said to be translated from the Gaelic as "battlefield" or "town on the plain." It was owned by a variety of local owners until purchased by Allied Distillers in 1970 until purchase by Inver House in 1996.
