Proof66 Notes

Bastille 1789 French whisky is said to be the handcrafted product of Jean-Marc Daucourt. It is named, obviously enough, in honor of the storming of the Bastille by the French Revolution. They claim to use cutting edge aging techniques in a variety of barrels. The whisky is made from a base of both barley and corn, then given a 5 to 7 year aging in various woods including French oak, cherry, and acacia.

This is a super sophisticated Whisky! I absolutely adore it. Not too sweet, just right! Wow. Also, the Bastille Single Malt is out of this world! Love!!

I'm generally a fan of whiskies that have a taste of fig. This one has that in spades, is warm, not too sweet and a low price point considering the quality. One of my favourite bargain bottles.

Quite good stuff. Very mellow and light- not terribly sweet at all. Perhaps it lands somewhere between a typical Irish and Scotch in sweetness and texture. But, it has quite a few amazing flavors across the spectrum. Somewhat floral, a little spicy, just a touch of caramel. The price on this is quite right as well- $30 for a really great sipping whiskey.

This is premium bourbon. From the casks it's aged in to the mash to the limestone water. Very enjoyable and very affordable.

I really didn't know what to expect with this one. There is probably a good cocktail to be made from this, but it would likely entail a lot of trial and error. No matter, though--I quite enjoyed it neat.

Light but complex. smooth and affordable at $30. The only French whisky that I have ever tried. I like the use of several types of wood. On the fruity side.

Somewhat demure. A good blended whisky, with a fragrant, floral nose. Dried fruit on the tongue, and just a touch of something nutty -- cashews? The Limousin oak definitely does something.

This is a relatively new product to the U.S .My impressions are the lightness ,sweetness and difference between this whisky and the Canadian whiskies. This is very pleasant being consumed straight without either water or ice as either may dillute an already light bodied whisky at 80 proof. I found this to be a very nice whisky as an after dinner drink or with a meal ,as long as the expectation is not that of an heavy full bodied scotch / bourbon.I will say that this is more reminescent of a bourbon than not. If I were rating this by a five star rating system I would rate this a solid 3 stars. A good value for the price point.A wonderful nose , a smooth palete , with a mild and hardly lingering finish.Possibly a good one for the ladies not a real challenge for the experienced whisky drinker due to its lack of complexity.
