American Whiskey - Bourbon
Belle Meade Small Batch Sour Mash Straight Bourbon Whiskey
This score falls in the 91st percentile of all spirits in the Whiskey category and is an example of the very best in its class.
Belle Meade Bourbon is owned by Nelson's Greenbrier Distillery of Tennessee. It is made in honor of Charles Nelson, who is said to have bottled and sold the brand in pre-Prohibition times as well as the line of race horses from the Belle Meade plantation. As a bourbon, it will have the requisite 50%+ corn grain content but also has a sizable portion of rye, which we take to mean gives the bourbon a spicy, robust "kick" often sought for stronger flavored cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Mint Julep.
According to the filing with the federal Tax and Trade Bureau, the bourbon is produced by contract by Speakeasy Spirits of Tennessee (formerly filed with Strong Spirits of Kentucky).
