American Whiskey - Bourbon
Black Maple Hill 16yr Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
This spirit has received awards in the past but not recently enough to qualify for a Proof66 Rating.
Black Maple Hill whiskey is a line made (though not acknowledged on their website) by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers that features long-aged and special runs of whiskey. The Black Maple Hill 16yr is one of the mid-level expressions in regards to age.
Thompson Willett (scion of a long Willett family tradition of distilling) founded the Willett Distilling Company in 1935. It operated in the family until they retired in the "early 1980s." It was then purchased by the Norwegian Even Kulsveen (the son in-law of Thompson Willett) who formed Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, Ltd, who specialized in blending, finishing, and bottling other stocks of whiskey. As of June, 2009, their website announces they're in the "final stages" of restoring the distillery to its original condition. In January, 2012, the new still was used and the first whiskey put down to rest in barrels.
