Black Velvet reserve has an outstanding nose of prominent oak with cinnamon and caramel. The Black Velvet Reserve entry is citrus ,maple syrup ,and butterscotch . The finish is maple syrup with twitch of citrus. Is this whisky or maple favored whisky liqueur? It is not very mixable being too sweet , It is maple syrup pancake sweet.I wanted to like it . Yukon Jack is outstanding and drier than this so call whisky,A real disappointment . I will stick to regular Black Velvet Whisky.

A solid enough whisky for the price (usually about $12-15 where I am). Nothing fantastic, but if you're on a budget it will do as a mixer and on its own in a pinch

Why does Canada suck so much at making whisk(e)y? This one is all sour grains and alcohol on the nose. The palate is alcohol and a generic, mild sweetness. The finish brings only a lingering sour note. How most Canadian distilleries stay in business is beyond me.

I am by no means an expert on whiskey, but I can't say this is the greatest. Not the worst, but definitely not the best. It seemed to have quite a bite to it, which I'm not a fan of...I prefer more smooth whiskies personally... It's decent for the price, but I probably wouldn't buy this again.

OK so this is literally Black Velvet but aged for 8 years instead of 3. Black Velvet isn't that bad, but has a strong ethanol finish which puts me off. This has the same perfume/ethanol scent, but tastes a bit sweeter and has little to no alcohol bite at the end, it's very smooth. You could do far worse for $13.

I was browsing my local liquor store and saw a bottle of this and thought to myself, "Hey, didn't I read some good things about this whisky...?" and so I bought a bottle. Turns out I was thinking about Canadian Mist Black Diamond (oops!).   Still, decided to give it a go. I'd been meaning to try a Canadian whiskey and this one bills itself as a fine sipping one. The nose is sweet, lightly vanilla but with a strong alcohol waft that I typically only expect in barrel proof whiskies and low-quality vodka. Taste is sweet initially; you taste the oak and a little caramel but it fizzles out and leaves you a short, mainly alcoholic finish. Not pleasant. So, really, OK nose, thin on the palate with a foul finish. I don't regret the purchase. $12 is not breaking the bank and it'll still mix fine with ginger ale but for something that calls itself a "Premium Sipping Whisky" I would expect a lot more.

My first reaction involved wondering if someday we were going to get a 10-year Reserve of Kentucky Deluxe. Then I actually tried it. The best Canadian whisky at the price point. Teach me to stop being so cynical.
