Proof66 Notes

Black Velvet Cinnamon Rush flavored whisky is an extension of the rising popularity of flavored whisky labels. It is based upon their flagship brand it claims to have a "fiery hot' and "intense cinnamon kick."

The 2013 Beverage Testing Institute warned that it had "no whisky character at all," which is becoming common in the flavored whisky arena as they become more and more liqueur-like.

About the Producer:

Black Velvet Distilling Company is now responsible for the production of the iconic Black Velvet whisky, formerly made at Schenley Distillery. They use local grains from Alberta farmers and local water from the Rocky Mountains in the production of their whiskies.

I bought a 750 ml bottle of this yesterday, remaindered, for $10. It's not whisky, but a Canadian whisky-based liquor that has no taste of whisky at all. I had a little sip out of the bottle when I got home. It was sweet, luscious, tongue-coating, and had a wonderful cinnamon flavor and smell. Then last night, I poured a couple ounces over several ice cubes and settled down to enjoy it. The first sip was delightful, as I held it in my mouth, but then it turned bitter. I couldn't believe it, so I tried again, and again. Deliciousness always turns to bitterness. I poured out the last half of the drink, as I didn't care to drink it. I'm going to throw away the rest of the bottle. This might be okay for people who toss down shooters and don't deserve flavor, but I want something special.

Tastes quite a bit like Fireball( which may or may not be a good thing depending on your tastes), maybe a little more muted. If you like Fireball, try this for a less expensive drink, if not just keep moving.
