Proof66 Notes

Blanton's bourbon is a popular premium bourbon from Buffalo Trace that contains the signature, rye notes for which they are famous. It is named for Colonel Albert Blanton, who is said to have entertained his friends with bourbon from "Warehouse H." The idea of handpicked barrels turned into the 1984 launch of what they consider to be the very first bourbon entry into the "ultra-premium whiskey market."

Blanton's Bourbon has one of the coolest bottles around, the figures on the cork represent the 8 different poses of horse-racing in honor of the Kentucky Derby. Obtaining all 8 of these figures is a sport among collectors.

Blanton's "Straight From the Barrel" bourbon is crafted very specifically for connoisseurs who are "familiar with cask strength whiskey." It is uncut, unfiltered, and obviously unblended with any sort of water. We presume that if you took a ladle and filled a pitcher right from the warehouse, this is what would come out. They say it has an "enormous taste profile" that "reaches depths of flavor found only in the rarest of spirits." Because it's straight from the barrel, there will be some variation in the listed proof.

One doesn't often think of buffalo in Kentucky but the Buffalo Trace Distillery takes its name from the buffalo path (or "trace") that led to the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County. They take pride in the limestone water (being notably free of iron) and good soil conditions for grain. The site has had a working distillery since 1787 but the official Buffalo Trace first began operation in 1857. It obtained one of only four permits offered during Prohibition to maintain production for "medicinal purposes." Today, the distillery sits on a picturesque 119 acres and produces several labels of critically acclaimed bourbon.

So it would seem there is some sort of backorder on this. If you can find it... buy it. I've had it, and it is great. Smooth and wonderful. Truly a delight. It is very drinkable. You can just sit and enjoy or you could suddenly realize you drank WAY too much of it. You'll still want another glass. This is "the good bottle" you'll want for special days.
