Proof66 Notes

Bowmore 15yr Darkest scotch is finished in Spanish sherry casks. It is said that the sherry notes are more pronounced than the peat (smoke) of this particular expression. We've seen some notes of an 80 proof expression but the most recently available information points to 86 proof:

On the nose, the fruit from the sherry casks is definitely recognizable. This is not a peat monster, but the smoke is unmistakable. This expression of Bowmore is dry, not sweet, with wood being the central character. Faintly medicinal from the peat smoke, but by no means overpowering. I love the big peaty Laphroigs and Lagavulins, but this is a tamer, more contemplative, rich dram that pairs very well with a cigar.

This malt is like Ardbeg Uigeadail "light". Smoky, salty, and with the pleasantly similar barbecue sauce sweetness that the Uig has all in a lighter, easy drinking dram. It's so easy drinking that you really have to pace yourself or you'll suck it right down and get too squished to try any others.

Deep, dark, smooth. Great after dinner by the fire!
