Proof66 Notes

Canadian Club Classic 12 whisky is aged (no longer showing an age statement) in American white oak. It's considered one of their premium offerings with "trademark smoothness" and a "long and dry" finish. This particular expression had a re-packaging sometime around 2013 adding the words "small batch" to the title. Various reports suggest a reformulation of the whisky as well.

Canadian Club is a brand of Canadian whisky using a blend of grains... and one has gotta love their new tag line, "Damn right your dad drank it." More recently, their 2014 marketing campaign suggested their whisky was "like a snowball in the face from a sexy person."

Hiram Walker founded Canadian club in 1858. Interestingly, it was originally produced in Detroit but, with prohibition looming, the distillery was relocated to Ontario. Over time, it has become the largest distillery in North America (located in Ontario, Canada) and a true grain-to-glass distillery on a large scale. There's a nice write-up at the Windsor Star about their efforts to source grain as locally as possible.

Not a bad whisky, but with Canadian whisky, a little light. On the nose maple and oak. Same with the taste with some vanilla. Its nice if you dont want a heavy bourbon or smoky scotch. $25 in my area with tax. I would but it again. Its a decent Canadian.

Some words come to mind like bland , uninspiring, and mediocre. Nose is vague oak and vanilla . The entry and palate is smooth bland ,oak .,cherry medicinal with faint gold rum finish This whisky is brown vodka that is 12 years old. A real disappointment especially for the price.

I was really, truly disappointed by this bottle. I wanted to revisit C.C. as it brought memories of my first experiences with whiskey (when as a teenager, I took a bottle out of my parents' cupboard to bring to a party, a bottle which must've been as old as I was). I wasn't charmed back then, but now that I've been around the proverbial whiskey block a few times I thought I'd give the Classic 12 a try. Unfortunately it was as bland and uninspiring as I remembered. First thing I noticed when I opened the bottle was the very faint nose, more reminiscent of vodka than whiskey. It doesn't have enough character to be sipped in my opinion, and the taste easily disappears when mixed. I expected a lot more from an aged spirit. In terms of Canadian whiskey, I would rather go for Crown Royal (especially Black) or Wiser's Small Batch.

A solid whiskey. If you think you know Canadian Club, think again.

I really like Classic 12 and I drink it on the rocks. It has a nice flavor with hints of oak barrel, and really smooth. This is my go to Canadian blend and I prefer it over Crown Royal.

When Crown Royal is overpriced or I can't find Forty Creek, this is the Canadian I turn to. Love it on the rocks with a little water, or in a Coke mix. In my area of Tennessee it can be had for $17, so it's priced a little below Forty Creek and way below Crown. All in all, a very nice Canadian

I'm not a huge fan of the other expressions of Canadian Club, but I really like this one for the price. Not a fine-cigar and snifter sort of whiskey -- more a fill-your-flask-for-game-day or mix-with-Cola. Pretty damned nice for the price.
