Proof66 Notes

The 25yr is a their new luxury scotch offered in limited release and individually numbered bottles. Their chairman claims that they have a "priceless stock" of aged whiskies, which allows them to blend such a "masterpiece."

Named Best Blended Scotch in the 2016 San Francisco Competition (in a field of 17 blended scotches).

Named Top Blended Scotch in the 2008 San Francisco Competition.

In one of the most charming reviews we've ever read, the 2011 Wine Enthusiast solemnly stated: "The smoky finish is the long-lingering type that whisky aficionados exclaim over for 10 minutes as the flavors continue to kaleidoscope. For maximum enjoyment, sip without any whisky aficionados around."

Chivas Brothers was founded in 1801 by James and John Chivas (the brothers) to create the perfect scotch whisky for "sharing with friends." At this time, single malt whiskies were (in their words) "harsh" and "poorly matured." By blending whiskies, the Chivas brothers were able to make famous a more drinkable brand of whisky. Chivas claims the Strathisla Distillery of Speyside as "the heart" of their blend. The brand is owned b French-based Pernod-Ricard.

Chivas Regal was made famous by the "rat pack" of Hollywood (and Las Vegas) fame.

This one is a fruitier scotch than I was expecting. It has citrus (orange), apricot, and hints of toffee, nuts and chocolate on both the nose and the palate. It doesn't have near the oak and smoke I was expecting, which may be why my wife was able to enjoy this one; the Chivas 25 is the one and only whisk(e)y she has enjoyed! I'm probably sounding like a broken record, but I wish this was higher than 80 proof. 80 proof is too watered down, especially when you spend $250 on a bottle.

As smooth as melted butter from the start. The flavor is complex and I find myself wrapped up in this work of art. At $300 well worth the experience. Buy one for those special occasions!
