Proof66 Notes

"Clyenlish" is Gaelic for "slope of the garden." The Clynelish distillery shares a heritage with the now "silent" Brora distillery. According to Whiskey Distilleries Info the Brora was known as Clynelish until its closing in 1983. The new Clynelish was constructed directly across the street from the old and took its name.

$60 in my area for this Highland malt. Prominent citrus nose, I get lemon peel and dried oranges. Let this one sit for a few minutes, allow the alcohol on top to yield...this whisky will take to a bit of water, but is very accommodating neat. A nice slightly waxy mouth feel and more fruit in the finish, quickly diminishes, though no detectable medicinal taste. 92 proof is a plus. This is a Diageo owned distillery, and Clynelish is not only featured in Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve but independent blender Compass Box uses various Clynelish expressions generously in many of their offerings ( I.e. 20 year in Flaming Heart). 4.2/5.0

4.15/5, waxy yes, mineral yes, flinty metallic edge yes, and very salty. Classic highland honey flavors and floral notes linger. The mineral flinty part may not be for everyone but it is quite unique and quite good. Supposedly the heart blend for gold label. I could see my self buying a bottle, quite complex actually

Highland whisky which have completely own waxy style. It has seashore aromas (no peat thing), honey and mustardy taste. Smooth and balanced, but waxy taste is little weird... One point for 46% ABV, maybe five stars if un-chill filtered & non-coloured. Maybe... Taste yourself!
