Proof66 Notes

Compass Box blended scotches are a new range meant to both nurture and evolve the traditions of scotch and provide a "re-birth" to the respect of blended scotch.

Great King St blend is called the "rebirth of a blend." By itself, it is meant to "revive the interest in one style of whisky only: blended scotch." The new line of whisky is named for the street at which Compass Box headquarters is registered in Edinburgh.

Greatest blended scotch ever in my opinion, but almost impossible to find here (Iowa; damn control state). A very light and smooth blend, hints of fruit and honey, a bit of smokiness (not peat necessarily), the only fault is a fairly short (albeit smooth) finish.

A very light scotch that works well in mixing, prominent apple flavors and minimal peat or barley taste. Tasty, and a good starter for those approaching Scotch, but will disappoint connoisseurs or those that appreciate big flavors. The equivalent of Four Roses, for those of you that enjoy bourbon - a fine product especially for beginners, but very mild and probably best as a cocktail ingredient rather than standing on its own.

This is a very, very light-bodied scotch. I might call it "feminine" or "pure" in the sense of being lightly flavored and not complex. There is a whisper of peat and a whisper of iodine. There are no large flavors here and particularly no large oak or barley flavors. This is much more of an ode to the soft grain. I regard it as perfect for getting into scotch but perhaps a touch disappointing to people who are seriously into scotch. I suggest serving with ginger ale and a lemon twist.

This is a light scotch, perfect for mixing with a little soda on a hot summer day. A great scotch nose and flavor without being overpoweringly peaty or briny.
