Proof66 Notes

Corsair Triple Smoke Malt whiskey is a considered an "experimental whiskey" by the distillery, which they say has a "sweet mashbill" (we presume something along the lines of an Irish whiskey using barley malt) smoked with peat, cherry wood, and beechwood (hence the "triple" smoke).

Fred Minnick writing for The Tasting Panel Magazine (September, 2012) mentioned “Triple Smoke is all over the place in a good way, taking the palate on an adventure.”

Corsair Artisan Distillery is a small-batch, hand-crafted spirits company making "just a few cases at a time." Their copper still is from 1920 and holds a mere 240 gallons.

This is not Scotch but it could easily pass for one. I love single malt scotch, and I rank this right up there with some of the best I've had. It is certainly not as smoky as Laphroaig or Lagavulin, but it does have some of those characteristics. When you bring the glass up to your nose, you will immediately notice cherry life-saver which carries through past the first sip. It has a very smooth, smoky, and butter finish. I have tried quite a few bourbons; Buffalo Trace, Breckenridge, Knob Creek, George Dickel .... This has a smoother finish than any of them and is also quite a bit more interesting simply by the mere fact it is something else besides bourbon.

Can I get an Amen? Thank you Corsair for being adventurous - I just want to go ride a bull in Texas after drinking this mesquite smokey madness.

Wow. Not a sipping drink? I wouldn't drink it any other way, but a variety of tastes is what makes the world go around.

This Tennessee distillery respects no boundaries in making spirits and the triple smoke is right in their wheelhouse with a malted mashbill smoked in a variety of wood styles that blurs the boundaries of single malt whiskey, smoke styles, and Islay scotch. For those who love experimenting in new styles of whiskey while smoking a cigar, this is well worth the try.
