Canadian Whisky - Blended
Crown Royal DeLuxe Canadian Blended Whisky
This is a Tier 2 score in the Whiskey category. It means critics have highly recommended the spirit as a benchmark in the category.
Crown Royal was first produced to in 1939 by Seagram's (then a Canadian company but now defunct with the label owned by Pernod-Ricard) to honor the Canadian tour by British royals King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Crown is probably the mose widely known and certainly one of the more widely available Canadian Whisky on the market. Currently, it's the top-selling Canadian whisky in the United States; the brand itself is owned by the Big Liquor Conglomerate Diageo. The distillery itself is, of course, located in Canada. Some may recall a narrowly averted labor strike in 2007 that would--heaven forfend!--have interrupted whisky production. One time produced in Ontario but moved production to Manitoba in 1992.
This is their flagship whisky that is also known as Crown Royal DeLuxe and is mixed mercilessly everywhere in the US in coke. Despite being blended, it's considered a 10yr whisky (meaning that all whiskies are no younger than 10 years).
Drink Hacker gave this whisky a nice 7.5 out of 10 score saying, "Crown Royal is pretty good stuff, and most drinkers tend to like it. So if you have a few extra bucks and are in the mood for a good whiskey, why not invest it in a bottle of Crown Royal?" Not exactly a ringing endorsement--especially for Proof66 readers who know that Elitism Rules--but still nice.
