Proof66 Notes

Crown Royal Maple Finish takes their flagship Crown Royal DeLuxe--known everywhere for the purple velvet bag--and gives it a final "running through" in toasted maple. While "finish" usually refers to a light aging in barrels their use of the "running through" suggests to us that the whisky is filtered through a kind of charcoal similar to Tennessee Whiskey going through a similar process in the US (with different wood). It also includes "natural maple flavors," which we take to mean a light sweetening and smoothing of the spirit.

This whisky is deep in maple aroma and flavor. Enjoyable as an after dinner dram. Almost like a liqueur in how it tastes, the 80 proof provides a nice chest-warming finish.

This is some great Canadian, BUT I put 1 oz of Maple into my 2 1/2 oz shot of Crown Royal. The combination gives the Crown just a hint of maple flavor which to me is quite pleasant

This is a pretty good drink if you're in the mood for something sweet. It reminds me of Vermont hippies, without the B.O.

I love it. It's strong on it's on, but delicious with mountain dew or coke. Definitely smells like breakfast. It is, however, overpriced.

I actually expected to like this alot more than I did.... Put this shit on pancakes, its that sweet. But the backbite is all whiskey that doesnt do great things when you have the sweet lingering on your tongue

This is really good, but more of an after dinner drink. Very rich maple flavour.

This couldn't possibly smell more like maple syrup... maybe with a little caramel. We smell this all the time at the International House of Pancakes. The taste is sweet but actually a little drier than we expected, maybe because we expected it to taste just like maple syrup too. The finish is all heat and sugar... not at all like a whiskey finish with all the resulting complexity. This finishes like a sugar soaked maple hard candy. A little ice and sugar makes this taste like more syrup and more sugar. It does drop the heat off a bit but gives the drink a much shorter finish. We dropped some bitters in to see if we could turn this into a kind of Old Fashioned. Orange bitters make this smell a heckuva lot better. That improved it a lot... almost a brandy, Grand Marnier type taste. We can give this thing 3 stars based cocktail potential.

Was given this to sample at a bar. Thank god it was free. Too sweet. And almost syrupy. Which I wonder if it is by design. All it left me feeling like was that I was hungry for pancakes and bacon.
