Proof66 Notes

This whiskey was "saved" from the Waterloo Distillery before it was destroyed by a fire in 1993 (this according to squidoo.com). The bottles are numbered and considered rather rare.

The 2012 Wine Enthusiast found it a bit hot and suggested mixing with water to improve the soft, velvet qualities of the whisky.

Crown Royal was first produced to in 1939 by Seagram's (then a Canadian company but now defunct with the label owned by Pernod-Ricard) to honor the Canadian tour by British royals King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Crown is probably the mose widely known and certainly one of the more widely available Canadian Whisky on the market. Currently, it's the top-selling Canadian whisky in the United States; the brand itself is owned by the Big Liquor Conglomerate Diageo. The distillery itself is, of course, located in Canada. Some may recall a narrowly averted labor strike in 2007 that would--heaven forfend!--have interrupted whisky production. One time produced in Ontario but moved production to Manitoba in 1992.

Better than any other crown royal that i have ever tried but not good for a whisky. not a ton of character or flavor. decently smooth but outrageously expensive mediocrity cannot be justified.

I was fortunate enough to sample XR at a holiday party over the weekend. While Im not the biggest fan of Canadian Whisky, and certainly not an expert, the XR was so ridiculously smooth it immediately reminded me of Hennessy Reserve and other high end cognacs Ive tasted over the years. Neat this dram is spicy, sweet, and as rich as a good port. Over ice, after a few minutes XR keeps its flavor and slightly chilled is fantastic.
