Proof66 Notes

The Dalmore 12yr scotch is the signature and flagship expression from the distillery. It is aged in a combination of American oak and Spanish sherry casks. It is said to be "elegant and rich" on the palate.

Very nice sherried highland malt. Certainly give it a try if it can be had at a good price in your area.

Sherried scotch done right. Raisins, figs, almonds, and just a little bit of oak. Lower tannins and no sharp alcohol edges are also welcome. Tastes older than a 12 year. Quite delicious, but I do agree with a previous review that a few more points of abv would do this malt wonders.

4.15/5, this is a darn classy 12! The review saying glenlivet is superior is a tough pill to swallow but to each his own ( I don't think it's even close). All the other reviews are pretty spot on. I'm not sure where that nutty flavor comes from (maybe the dryness of the olorosso and the ex bourbon casks?). I like the description of the gentle wine flavors roaming throughout but restrained and classy. It is in the top shelf of 12s in my book

(3.5 out 5). Comes in a very nice bottle (different and better from the one pictured), and has a very nice dessert nose. I get caramel, butterscotch, nuts, and sherry. Has a good flavor and a pleasant finish. However, it's sad that this is bottled at 40%. If it were bottled at, say, 45-48% abv, the flavors would be amplified. Furthermore, it's a bit watery on the palate for a single malt, and an increased abv would fix this as well. This is a decent dram, and would be a good introduction to single malts. Not a favorite, but it could be if they upped the abv.. about $50 where I live.

When I first opened the bottle I thought it smelled a bit to much of dry wine. the first sip also seemed a bit acidic. The smallest of drops of water opened it up nicely though. Still spicy but on entry with some sherry. I taste more of the oak like a good bourbon somewhere in the middle and I catch a hint of leather then fruit finishing I think again with the sherry. A good Highland scotch even though I prefer Islay and Speyside malts.

Another scotch I bought "just because". The maroon/purple box was sort of cool too (different than the box pictured here). The sherry is a light touch in this scotch, not a sherry bomb by any means. You really get it on the back half of the taste. This is no Macallan 12yo, but a superb scotch if you prefer just a hint of sherry. I do agree with another reviewer, if this was bottled at a higher ABV I think it would be much better. 4 out of 5 for sure. This has made me a fan of The Dalmore and I can't wait to try more. A must try!

This is my favorite Scotch to date. It's great for those who don't like heavily-smoked whiskies.

A solid, Highland single malt. Not as good of a sipping Scotch as Glenlivet, but a great value for the price.
