Proof66 Notes

The Dewar's 18yr is a blend of 18yr old scotch whiskies; it's said that the scotch's popularity is making the 18yr increasingly hard to find.

As the name might suggest, the company John Dewar and Sons was founded in 1846 by founder John Dewar, Sr and his sons John, Jr and Thomas Dewar.

Good starter blend. Price is reasonable and very comparable to JW black. More of a personal preference, but could be an everyday drinking scotch.

When introducing guests to smoky/peaty scotches I like to start with this. It's nicer (pricier) than black label (hence a bit smoother & more approachable for the beginner). I'm going to go out on a limb & call it a poor man's Blue label. Not quite as smooth with a bit more saline but the light subtle smokiness is similar. If they/you don't like this mild smoky/peaty flavor then don't even bother with venturing into the ard/laph/laga bottles... if you do think you like the smoky flavor then the next scotch I pour tends to be JW double black

A bit harsh comared for something finer but not bad for a cheap Scotch. Light and fruity.
