Proof66 Notes

Dry Fly Distilling Company's name came from its founders Don Poffenroth and Kent Fleischmann, who conceived of the idea of distilling while flyfishing on the Gallatin River in the Pacific Northwest. Located in Spokane, Washington, they are proud of their use of local ingredients and botanicals. They use a German-made copper still with a capacity of less than 4,000 cases of liquor annually.

Pretty smooth stuff. I'm not a fan of the dry-lemonade finish some whiskys have; Dry Fly, on the other hand, is mellow and pleasant. A favorite of mine.

I agree with Phizbin's review. It might be a decent whiskey with more age on some quality wood, but as it is now it's just mostly bland with some youthful edges in the background. I wish I had more to say about it but that pretty much sums it up.

"Drinkable" is right in line with this one. It's fine... but it's also bottled at 80 proof and it's very, very young so it has none of the nice, oak-driven character of other whiskey. And there's so much whiskey on the market that's aged 6 or 8 or 10 years bottled at a higher proof. I just don't understand the need or desire to purchase this at a microdistillery price when some mass-market whiskey is actually better and cheaper.

Great whiskey. Wheat adds a both a softness and sweetness not found in many whiskeys.

Really quite charming in a understated way. Could be compared to some Genevers of European (non-Scotch) whiskies. Damn cheap if compared almost all microdistilled whiskey of any age. Especially something aged two years or more.
