Proof66 Notes

Eastside Distilling (formerly Deco Distilling) was founded in 2009 by Lenny Gotter and Bill Adams--long-time friends who shared "a passion for distilled spirits." They strive to produce spirits made from ingredients found in the localities of Portland, Oregon where the distillery makes its home.

Burnside Bourbon is a younger expression, aged for four years and bottled at a relatively higher proof at 96.

According to a reports in Willamette Week and The Bourbon Intelligencer (among others), the bourbon is acquired from another distillery and bottled on site.

Tastes unrefined, jagged, and young. Whatever they did to prep the barrels for the whiskey must have been off as well. The 2 prominent notes in the flavor profile are alcohol edges and a funky barrel influence that just tastes and smells weird. On the first sip I immediately thought about how it tasted like how my gun cleaning solvents smell. Steer clear of this one ladies and gents.

Tried this straight and in multiple cocktail recipes. For a side by side comparison I used Buffalo Trace in the same cocktails. No contest - Buffalo Trace trounced Burnside.
