Proof66 Notes

Today, Elijah Craig bourbons are produced as part of the Bardstown Bourbon Society. They are named for the reputed "father of bourbon" Reverend Elijah Craig, who is (sometimes) credited with first using charred oak barrels to give bourbon whiskey its distinctive flavor and color.

Elijah Craig 18yr bourbon is the oldest single-barrel bourbon in the world, declares Heaven Hill Distillery's website.

This fantastically wonderful bourbon from Heaven Hill Distilleries is hands down the best bourbon I have ever tasted. I enjoy the smoother, more complex bourbons rather than the higher proof - knock your socks off bourbons. The Elijah Craig 18yr is an unbelievable bourbon - especially at this price point. Highly recommended!!

Excellent Bourbon! The smoothest bourbon around and far superior to the 12 year old bourbon.

Eighteen years in the barrel have worked magic on this whiskey. It begins with a fruity, spicy smell and then gets even better on the tongue. The flavor is a mix of sweet caramel and vanilla, with enough oak -- but not too much -- to give it complexity. It closes with a finish that is warm and succulent. This bourbon is so good it's practically decadent. For more reviews, including the results of our bourbon taste tests, please visit ProfessorCocktail.com.

Big, bold start. Depth of flavor matched by it's deep amber color. A finish that lasts for minutes with waves of flavors. This bourbon sets the standard for me in what role aftertaste can play in a fine spirit.

A great sipping bourbon. It has a smooth, almost candied, quality that reminds me of the 23-year-old Pappy Van Winkle (for which you'll pay more than five times the cost). With water or ice, though, it takes on a somewhat harsh woodiness.

Very smooth and Drinkable. I am not a whiskey drinker though so this is as high as my whiskey ratings go.

NOT for the faint of heart. EC18 has a VERY bold, almost explosive, flavor. Great stuff.

This is an outstanding bourbon! It's big and robust and huge--everything a magnificent bourbon should be. But unlike a lot of single-barrel bourbons, it's not such a high proof that scalds without ice or water. Tried it in one of the greatest Manhattans I've ever had.
