Proof66 Notes

Heaven Hill Distilleries was founded shortly after prohibition and in the height of the Great Depression with no brands and no ready available stocks of whiskey. Today, they claim an inventory of over 675,000 barrels. The company reports that it is "the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the country." While Heaven Hill focuses on bourbon, it produces a wide array of spirits.

Evan Williams claims to be the second largest selling brand of bourbon in the US. The brand itself is named for the reputed "first distiller" in 1783. We consider it a remarkably inexpensive bourbon.

Each year, the distillery releases a 10yr old limited edition, single-barrel bourbon, which we list separately. This is the Evan Williams 2001 Vintage.

Excellent. Smooth and flavorful.  Evan Williams never seems to get the respect it deserves.

I enjoyed my first dram of this last night (I 've never had any brand of Evan Wiliams before). I must say, I was blown away... it was complex yet smooth. There was a hint of wood, but just enough to make it interesting, and not disjointed at all. One of my new favorites for sure.

Everybody loves the Evan Williams Single Barrel, & that's why I was slightly dissapointed with the 2001.  It has a nice, complex flavor, smooth without lingering in the mouth.  However, with all of the double gold awards, I was expecting something a bit different than other premium bourbons.  Overall, it is similar to 1792 & the other smooth premium bourbons in this price segment.
