Proof66 Notes

Each year, the distillery releases a 10yr old limited edition, single-barrel bourbon, which we list separately. This is the Evan Williams 2004 Vintage, which is aged between 9 and 10 years. The press release promises a bit more "assertive and bold than in years past." Look on the label for the particular barrel and warehouse location.

In a very positive review by Drink Spirits (Geoff Kleinman), they extolled its exceptional value: "In an age of significant price creep on premium and limited American whiskey releases, it’s mind-blowing that Heaven Hill has priced Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage at $26.99. At this price, it’s simply one of the biggest bangs for your buck that you’ll find in American whiskey... Put simply, this is great whiskey being sold at a fraction of the price that almost any other company would sell it at."

Evan Williams claims to be the second largest selling brand of bourbon in the US. The brand itself is named for the reputed "first distiller" in 1783. We consider it a remarkably inexpensive bourbon.

Heaven Hill Distillerieswas founded shortly after prohibition and in the height of the Great Depression with no brands and no ready available stocks of whiskey. Today, they claim an inventory of over 675,000 barrels. The company reports that it is "the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the country." While Heaven Hill focuses on bourbon, it produces a wide array of spirits.

Well done. Very nice smooth taste. A nice aftertaste. Another Vintage 10 yr winner.

Easily one of the best values not only in Bourbon, but spirits in general. Ultra smooth, bold, sweet, great nose, fantastic rich finish. Use as a mixer to make cocktails divine or sit back and enjoy straight as a sipper, either way you win. There's a reason Whisky Advocate has rated the EW Single Barrel expressions in the top ten bourbons year after year.

Decided to try this after seeing an article extolling its value. Picked up a bottle for $25. Attractive packaging with heavy black wax seal. Got the bottle home and was surprised to find the date it was put in the barrel (which happened to be my wife's birthday), the date it was bottled and the barrel number. Good nose with butterscotch, oak, and a pleasant earthiness. Enters the palate with caramel sweetness, followed by a hint of citrus. Nice oak char with a dry peppery finish. The citrusy sweetness coats the tongue and lingers for an extended time. I really enjoy this. It gets 4 stars for the drinking experience, and an extra star for being a good single barrel offering for under $30.

I will be honest. I reallllyyy wanted to like this bourbon. But from the first sip to many glasses on u have consistently not liked the flavor profile. Its not particularly sweet. Its not particularly spicy. But what it really is is earthy. Its taste is almost like im drinking the essence of really dark rich soil and leather. I wouldnt mind that so much if it had some of the other traditional flavors of bourbon in there to round it out. But at least my bottle doesnt. I added water to it to see if it would loose some other flavors but all it did was intensify the earthy musk. My wife seems to like it so there is that. I will continue to want to like this bourbon til im done with the bottle. If i dont however i dont see myself buying another 2004 vintage.

Bought mine for 23 bucks. Someone could make an argument for paying twice that and I wouldn't object. Has a bit of the "muskiness" that I like about Blanton's but instead of being dry and more subtle this one is bold and sweet. Fantastic bourbon. I'm definitely going to buy a bottle of their vintage release every year from now on.

22$ dollars. 10 year bourbon. Single Barrel, I made every drink with this Old Fashioned, Mahattan, Whiskey Sour, solid every time. Let me back my words up, watch Wine Enthusianist or Beverage tasting Institute rate this, it's going to be in the 90's u can wait for that or stay ahead of the pack and be a leader.
