American Whiskey - Bourbon
Evan Williams 2004 Vintage Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
This spirit has yet to face the slings and arrows of the rating agencies.
Each year, the distillery releases a 10yr old limited edition, single-barrel bourbon, which we list separately. This is the Evan Williams 2004 Vintage, which is aged between 9 and 10 years. The press release promises a bit more "assertive and bold than in years past." Look on the label for the particular barrel and warehouse location.
In a very positive review by Drink Spirits (Geoff Kleinman), they extolled its exceptional value: "In an age of significant price creep on premium and limited American whiskey releases, it’s mind-blowing that Heaven Hill has priced Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage at $26.99. At this price, it’s simply one of the biggest bangs for your buck that you’ll find in American whiskey... Put simply, this is great whiskey being sold at a fraction of the price that almost any other company would sell it at."
Evan Williams claims to be the second largest selling brand of bourbon in the US. The brand itself is named for the reputed "first distiller" in 1783. We consider it a remarkably inexpensive bourbon.
Heaven Hill Distillerieswas founded shortly after prohibition and in the height of the Great Depression with no brands and no ready available stocks of whiskey. Today, they claim an inventory of over 675,000 barrels. The company reports that it is "the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the country." While Heaven Hill focuses on bourbon, it produces a wide array of spirits.
