Proof66 Notes

Each year, the Heaven Hills releases a limited edition, single-barrel bourbon, which we list separately. This is the Evan Williams 2007 Vintage, which is aged between 9 and 10 years first released in 2016.

Heaven Hill Distillerieswas founded shortly after prohibition and in the height of the Great Depression with no brands and no ready available stocks of whiskey. Today, they claim an inventory of over 675,000 barrels. The company reports that it is "the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the country." While Heaven Hill focuses on bourbon, it produces a wide array of spirits.

This is a strange one. First, I should note that I really wanted to like the 2007 bottling for a number of reasons, it's affordable, age stated and available just down the street. But the pours are just not shining. Overall, it's a slightly below average bourbon on my 10 point scale. I will wait until 2008 is available at my local before I buy another bottle.

Found it pretty smooth with a nice oakiness. Not sure of the barrel code.

Uh-oh...Bardstown, we have a problem. It's the 2007 Evan Williams "Single Barrel". Here I am a huge vocal fan of the 2005 vintage giving the 2007 a 1 star. Here is why; Lets start with the nose = Reminiscent of black vinyl work gloves. On to the taste. I don't believe you could get any more acrid Oak tannins in this whiskey even if you put chunks of wood in the bottle ! What a huge disappointment. I wonder why you could purchase this at Costco for $20 even before the local liquor stores had it ? I would not want any more of this stuff even if they were giving it away ! I'm glad to hear you say this... I thought that there was something wrong with me when I didn't like it at all. I just stare at it sitting on my shelf, mocking me, and I wonder what I'm ever going to do with it.

Thanks for your comment Phizbin-I have only gave a 1 star once before. You were garcious to go 3 stars. I almost went 2 and then decided no..Call it what it is.

I bought this because everyone loved the 2005 so much (and kind of hated the 2006). I saw it on the shelf and thought, "Damn! I can't let the 2007 slip by me in case it's awesome!" Well, it's not that awesome. It's thick, charry, and has that long, oak finish that some people love but I've never liked much. This is the same style of bourbon as Knob Creek or Woodford Reserve with that thick char flavor. For me, I pass in favor of Buffalo Trace or maybe even Bulleit. Maybe 2008.

Just had to tell you what I did with my 2/3 bottle of EWSB 2007- I had about the same amount of Crown Royal Black that had alot of flavor but no pazzaz at all. Well, I mixed the 2 together and ended up with a pretty good Bourbon-almost a 5 star-reminds me alot of Michters US1 bourbon. Cheers !
