Proof66 Notes

Forty Creek Copper Pot Reserve whisky was first released in 2012 with a mash bill of corn, barley, and rye (similar to many American bourbon grain blends). It is distilled batch style in a copper pot still (giving rise to the name), which they believe gives the whisky a "deeper and ricer taste profile." It is bottled at a more scotch-like strength of 86 proof rather than the more typical 80 proof for many Canadian whiskies.

Kittling Ridge is in Ontario, Canada near the Niagara Escarpment and takes its name from the ridge that separates the "growing conditions" for the winery. The winery was purchased in 1992 by John Hall, who also owns Forty Creek Whisky. His background is in wine and has led to a distinctive and unique approach to distilling spirits. In her (excellent!) book 99 Drams of Whiskey self-proclaimed "accidental hedonist" Kate Hopkins interviewed John Hall and quoted him saying, "I respect the traditions surrounding whiskey but coming from a winemakers' background, I am not tied to them." In March, 2014, Forty Creek Distillery was acquired by Italian-based Gruppo Campari for a reported $180 million.

A very strong competitor to Crown Royal Black. Great tasting stuff, but please don't mix it with Coke--all the flavors really come out with just an ice cube or two and a little splash of water. Nothing else

First tried this last year. I have since consumed many many bottles. I now have many bottles of other partially drank rye that will be given to company. What I am trying to say, is this damn rye has ruined all other ryes!
