Proof66 Notes

This is the Glen Moray Classic single malt, which does not carry an age statement but is presumably their youngest (and least expensive) scotch.

Glen Moray Distillery is situated near the Lossie River and reaches back to 1897 for its founding. Their historical notes include distilling in the shadow of Gallow Hill where personages were executed by British royalty--an important road giving way to a more peaceful time. Their whiskies are aged in American bourbon barrels. The distillery is owned by La Martiniquaise, who acquired it from Moet Hennessy in 2008.

(See update below, unfortunately my review here is now out of date.) The previous reviewer is entirely spot on. Both extremely delicious and extremely affordable. Sweet, unexpectedly complex, with just the slightest hint of peat. I prefer it to other standard malts like Glenlivet 12 yr, and its half the price. Really a great deal, and a really good scotch.

ggabor (2016-05-04):
Update (Feb 2016): I have purchased a new bottle of Glen Moray classic (label change compared to what was available 2-3 years ago) and the quality has decreased. Not terrible, but not excellent on its own. I pepped it up by adding a very small bit of Appleton 12 to make an approximation of a "Rum cask" scotch vatting, since I also did not find the Appleton great (too much burnt sugar on its own). But the vatting is nice, and makes the bottle of Glen Moray that I bought interesting and good, making up for its slightly more alcohol notes and moderately less complexity than in earlier versions. I will be updating the star rating from a 4 to a 2.

I can't believe some people liked this! As my name implies I am always looking for an affordable drink but I had to give this bottle away. The taste to me was a rotten fruit flavor or old damp grass? Something sour. I also don't agree with preferring it over Glenlivet 12. Glenlivet 12 is something I keep on hand as it is affordable and tastes decent.

Very sweet scotch and the price is right. Probably the cheapest single malt youll find. Subtle fruity flavor in the mouth followed by a warmness and light aftertaste without burn. Good choice for those who like a lighter flavor and better straight up do not mix this one as it will lose its subtle flavors. Id mark this high and is a good tasting scotch and great value for money.
