Proof66 Notes

Glengoyne Distillery became official (that is, legal) in 1833 but they claim more than 200 years of experience based upon illicit distilling that was rife in the area due to heavy taxes. George Connell operated and owned the distillery in those early years but it changed hands a few times through the 20th century to end up with Ian McLeod Distillers in 2003. Glengoyne takes its name for "Glen Guin" or "glen of the wild geese" according to the website. The distillery gets its water from a small stream flowing off of the Dumgoyne Hill and feeding into Loch Lomond. They claim the water adds "a very delicate flavor" to the whisky. Glengoyne takes pride in air drying their barley rather than using "harsh peat smoke." They are unusual in providing scotch without the typical and signature peat reek or smoky flavor.

The Whiskey Place notes that the palate of this expression is "Rich [with] very firm flavors of fruit and oak."  The finish is reportedly "Creamy, fruity, [with] vanilla pods"

Citrus, pear, and cereal grains on the nose. Pretty much the same on the palate but add in some tannins and spice. Not a horrible malt, but the astringency and alcohol edges are far too prominent for me to ever dish out the going rate for this bottle again. My Speyburn 10 year is a much better version of a similar profile at less than half the price.
