Proof66 Notes

The Glenkinchie Distilliery was originally the Milton Distillery but was renamed in 1837. The name "kinchie" is said to be a corruption of "de Quincy," the original land owners. It is one of very few distilleries in the Scottish lowlands. Today it comprises one of the classic malts from Diageo.

The Glenkinchie 12yr single malt is is meant to "replace" the 10yr version.

Lowland whiskies tend to be overlooked by many whisky drinkers. That's unjustified! Being a rather light, soft and floral Single Malt, Glenkinchie 12 has a surprising complexity. The nose is mildly grainy and fruity with honey, nuts and caramel. It's a busy nose that needs a bit of time to open up. The taste is full-bodied with ripe fruits, honey, pepper and a malty spiciness. It turns slightly dry, and there is an occasional spiritiness coming through. The finish is fresh and spicy - but rather short. An easy-access Single Malt with some remarkable character to it! RATING: 3.5/5.0 ≙ 86 pts

I found this to be a very enjoyable single malt. Honeyed sweetness on the nose and at first sip, this had a pleasingly sweet finish with nice spice. I did not pick up any bitter or tannic notes. This was my first Lowland Scotch and it had a rich sweetness that exceeded my expectation. This would seem to me to be a great Scotch for a Bourbon lover.
