Proof66 Notes

The Glenlivet 15yr French Oak Reserve scotch is aged not in American oak but rather French limousin (cognac) barrels. It is said that the French oak gives more substantial wood characteristics than the typical American oak and recommend it for the "sweet tooth." In our own guided tasting, we were told to expect a more exotic nose redolent of cedar and citrus. The palate will evoke tropical flavors, including pineapple, mango, and some spices including cinnamon and white pepper.

I agree with Muncher, the nose is really where this scotch shines. Drinks very similar to the 12 year old, the flavors are just more heavily pronounced. The fruity notes really come through on this one. A brandy drinker would really enjoy this. Never add water to this scotch, EVER. Even the tiniest drop throws off the taste. This is well worth the extra $10-$15 over the 12.

4/5, better than 12 but I was hoping for more. I'm not a big fan of 12 and if I had too I'd gladly upgrade to this. It's a little sweeter but no real complexity or character to it.

To me this is the scotch version of Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon. I could sit and just nose it without ever taking a drink. When I do take a drink though, it's like the drying oakiness is playing at 11 and every other flavor is playing at a 4. Not nearly as good as the 18 year and not worth the price increase over the 12 imho.

Usually a bourbon drinker but decided to try some single malts. Not regretting it at all.  Smooth and flavorful.  Good entry for others looking to get into single malt scotches.

Half of my bottle of this is gone...a crying shame. The french oak and time really rounded out this Scotch. A pleasure to drink with someone who enjoys a nice twist on the aging process. The nose and palette are traditional Glenlivet. If you don't have this bottle, get it. You will not be disappointed. While it's not as treasured as say an older Glen would be, it's still to be desired.

This stuff smells amazing. This has the best aroma of any booze I have smelled. It has a floral taste and it does burn a good bit going down. Definitely better than every other Scotch I\\\'ve tried(Chivas 12 and Johnny Walker(Red or Black), however I\\\'m still a bourbon drinker.

The world of fine Scotch Whisky is growing on me and the Glenlivet 15yr is speeding up the process. This is a very fine scotch whisky - it rolls over your tongue like a sea of silk. Very nice...

Right out of the gate I could tell this wasn't your 12yr Glenlivet with a little more age on it. I don't know what the French Oak does to the scotch that's so different, but when I tasted, the whisky was mellowed and sweetened. It almost tasted like a peated (and very good) Irish whiskey. Drinking it is like drinking velvet... the lower proof keeps it from being in your face and it's supple so it doesn't demand constant concentration when you're drinking it. Well worth the extra money over the 12yr.
