Proof66 Notes

The Glenrothes 2001 was first bottled in 2012 and was blended from several different casks. They claim it has "wonderful length and depth" promising flavor notes of black cherry and soft spices.

The Glenrothes Distillery produced its first whisky in 1879 and they claim became "instantly prized by master blenders." Berry Bros & Rudd conceived of issuing scotch whisky in vintage years similar to wines and Glenrothes was a part of this new concept of treating scotch whisky. Glenrothes prides itself in using spring water the Ardcanny and Brauchhill springs. The scotch is matured in a combination of American new oak and Spanish sherry casks. Unusual for a distillery, the sherry oak is "seasoned to exact specifications" for Glenrothes.

My review is for the 2001/2013 bottling, so this may be for a truly different bottling: Nose: rich malt, toasted oak, butterscotch, round and soft nose, no hard edges, antique perfume Palate: spicy caramel, toffee, pine needles, warm spices, heads up to the back of the nose, rich and complex, sharp and piquant, bit of a hot edge on 2nd and 3rd sips. Toffee pie with buttercrust finish. Finish: clean/short but powerful, buttery finish.

Apple, citrus, and a hint of smoke in the nose. The flavor lags behind from there. Similar notes in the flavor profile but there's some alcohol edges and sour notes that really detract from the experience.
