Proof66 Notes

The Glenrothes Select Reserve single malt scotch is their first "non-vintage" selection chosen for specific characteristics and consistency. It carries no age statement but is rather selected from "mature" whiskies from different years.

The Glenrothes Distillery produced its first whisky in 1879 and they claim became "instantly prized by master blenders." Berry Bros &

Color: Golden yellow Nose: citrus, golden raisins, vanilla buttercream, light grass, dried hay, toasted malt Palate: first bit, sweet golden fruits, light dusting of white pepper, lemon curd, orange peel, light salty sea spray, soft and smooth with only mild heat. Continues to be refreshing. Misty, green, mossy. Young and fresh. Pretty and educated without being overly complex or full of baggage. Finish: medium, lingering sweetness, unctuous,

Tastes like a cross between Highland Park 12 and Laddie 10. The only thing I'd change is bottling it at 43 or 46% instead of 40. Other than that it's very much worth the price I paid.

Proof66 Staff (2016-05-11):
Hello... Proof66 Staff here. I checked on this. The 2012 rating from the San Francisco competition was reported at 40%. However, just magnifying the image on the Glenrothes website showed 43%. It's not unheard of to adjust bottling proof, particularly between the European and US markets. Whatever the case, we left the 80 proof here in our database and I shot an inquiry over to Glenrothes. We'll let you know if we hear from them!

Highland Park and Bruichladdich? You should really taste that malt before writing...

I cannot believe this one got a higher score than the 1985 version. It's a fine, smooth whiskey but after all nothing special.
