Proof66 Notes

Hochstadter's Rock and Rye is Robert Cooper's third release and is a bridge to the 19th century American tradition of adding rock candy to rye whiskey to give it a sweetened flavor. It's based upon a variey of recipes but includes navel orange flavors and sweetened with Pennsylvania honey (which implies to us a kind of Old Fashioned cocktail taste). a friend gave me an unfinished bottle that he didn't want and I quickly found out why. an extremely rough / young rye with waaaayyy too much orange flavor that punches you in the face, all at once ... and did I mention, a particularly bad/worse hangover, the next day . not a fan .

Quite enjoyable. It is sweet; it accented an Arnold Palmer very well. I also enjoyed it as a float to a glass of whisky (Crown Royal). A good addition for a complete bar.

A very great whiskey. It said its a honey citrus. I just taste a strong orange taste. The bite is very small and it goes down smooth. A very enjoyable drink. The price is more thsn i expect for a 20$ investment. Neat or with like a sprite.

Really enjoyed this one, didnt really know what to expect heading in. Certainly has sweet notes of citrus, but not in a acidic or fake way. Works very well chilled on a few big icecubes

The aroma reminds me of orange PEZ candies, but instead of a patient kick-back of the dispenser's noggin to get a single piece, they skipped the dispenser all together and went straight for the whole row. The flavor is more orange PEZ and when tasted neat, has a mild needle on the tongue. An ice cube helps to calm that down a bit, but the flavor profile doesn't change much. Lots and lots of orange. This might actually be worth tossing into an Old Fashioned just to see what it would do. At any rate, not bad and probably on par with the price point.
