Proof66 Notes

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Proof Bourbon was first released in 2015 and bottled at the natural cask strength for those who want an unfiltered (and desperately high proof) spirit that necessarily demands some dilution with ice or water. It is made from their Single Barrel whiskey line that is said to be matured in the "highest reaches" of their distillery. As a Tennessee whiskey, it will be filtered through "ten feet" of sugar maple charcoal, which they claim "imparts a distinct smoothness" to the whiskey.

If you’ve read my review on Old No. 7, you will see I’m certainly not in the “anti-Jack camp”. Do I think it’s overpriced for the quality?...Of course! This bottle of booze is an entirely different animal altogether! My bottle weighs in at 64.7%, 129.4 proof. Surprisingly, you really don’t need to add water to this to enjoy all the layers of flavor and nuances this beast has to offer! The nose is sweet with caramel, vanilla, toffee, and that normal banana scent you always pick up on Old No. 7 but light and subtle. The heat is there, but it doesn’t overwhelm the nose like you’d think it would for being almost 130 proof. Palate entry is thick with maple syrup, brown sugar, & chocolate, coconut, and a nuttiness that reminds me of Almond Joy Candy. The finish is looonnnggg with toffee, and black pepper spice (this is where the heat shows up). This stuff is DANGEROUS because it has a taste that has you coming back for more and more. I really commend Jack Daniels for making a product that true whiskey appreciators and aficionados can enjoy! This stuff isn’t cheap, but IMHO, it’s a $60 bottle of whiskey that drinks like a $60 bottle of whiskey – it’s worth every penny! I invite all the Jack haters out there to give this a shot sometime because this is truly phenomenal! 5 Stars, no doubt!

I think the higher proof really helps Jack Daniels Single Barrel, not a fan of the other. Variety.

WOW! This packs a punch! Taste like Single Barrel but higher proof. Needs ice to cool it down. Love it!
