Proof66 Notes

Founder John Jameson acquired the distillery in 1780... by 1805, Jameson had become the world's number one whiskey. While considered a blended whiskey, Jameson prides itself on producing every component from "grain to glass"--the blend is a blend only of married Jameson whiskies.

An Irish classic, works well mixed with other beverages or served on the rocks. The only issue is that it's pretty overpriced, here in Ireland where it's made it costs more to buy a bottle than it does to buy one in Belgium or France.

This is first Irish whiskey i tried (probably first for most people) and it is perfectly fine as casual drink. Has vanilla and buttery aroma with hints of fruits and fair smoothness. Aftertaste kinda reminds me of licorice. Irish whiskey seems to emphasize smoothness (though not as smooth as Canadian Whiskys) and is probably one of the more approachable styles of whiskeys for beginners.

I agree with Irishman, this is not the Jameson I remember(mellow and smooth). Harsh bite makes it unpleasant to drink neat. It even looks different, slightly darker. Apparently, when you are producing large amounts, quality can easily drop down. These days better go for standard Bushmills, rather than regular Jameson. For the same price, of course. Regarding Black Barrel, I have an unopened bottle in my cabinet, so I can't compare. But, keep in mind that Black Barell costs twice as much than this one. And there is a really tough competition outside, in higher price range, so we shall see...

I was expecting more out this than I got. There was nothing wrong with it, it's smooth, slightly sweet, a little on the young side, but in the end I just found it too boring to make it memorable enough for me to suggest it to anybody.

Not a horrible pour, but I'm glad I only bought a small bottle. Did a side by side with the Jameson Black Barrel, and the Black clearly outshines the standard. One thing that did surprise me about the standard though is the caramel notes in both the nose and the palate. I was expecting just a common, sugary Irish sweetness so the caramel was a pleasant surprise. Worth the money I think.

Light and fresh, sweet but not too much. Definite apple taste. Great finish, grassy, tangy. And an aftertaste of honey

Just prior to this past 2014 St. Patrick’s Day, I purchased a 5th of Jameson Original. At the St. Patrick’s Day parade here in Metairie (New Orleans western suburb), Louisiana, a number of us pleasantly sat back & tasted the Jameson Original neat. Because it was a base grade whiskey and inexpensive ($20), I was carefully looking for something wrong with this whiskey. Somewhat surprisingly, I couldn’t find anything wrong with it – none, zero, nada. In fact, it was downright good, enjoyable, and tasty beyond its affordable price point. With its fine taste and at its price point, it is a distilled spirits best buy. I would give this whiskey a solid 4 or 5 on taste only, without it being a best buy. However, because it is so good on its own and because of its most affordable price point, I'll give a 5 of 5. For me from now on, Jameson Original will be my go-to St. Patty parade dram, along with Powers Gold Label, and it will have a place in my bar. Further, Jameson Original should be in everyone’s bar. Hats off to Pernod-Ricard. They have done really well.

Ok - so I'm editing my review of Jameson due to the fact that it no longer meets my criteria for good Irish Whiskey. It used to be great, but something has changed over the years and now there is a harsh bite followed by an awful finish. To be honest, I think the new Jameson Black Barrel is what regular Jameson USED to be (only now it's $10 more). Very disappointing.

A solid simple whiskey. It's solid neat & on the rocks. Of the base common bar brands (jack, jim etc) I think this is the one to go for. However, if you are familiar with this than please use this website to explore some of the finer things. You are truely just touching the tip of the iceberg with this!

(3 out of 5). Decent Irish whisky that you can find anywhere. Vanilla and some malt on the nose, but nothing worth sipping. Seems unavoidable on St. Patrick's Day, and, all told, you could do a lot worse. $25 in my area.

2.7 stars wonderful sweet vanilla smell, sadly not that great tasting, young/harsh with just a hint of the nice sweetness that gets in the nose. solid stuff if you add coke but thats it.

Medium plus intensity grainy flavor with a full plus burn but the whiskey is somehow smooth (triple distillation). Affordable enough at $20 a fifth but I wouldn't drink other than for the novelty of having Irish whiskey or for an expensive mixer.

Pleasant mild sweetness.  One of the few whiskeys I am tempted to "shoot" (or at least down rather quickly).  Has a nice finish for a relatively inexpensive spirit.

Has great flavors going on. Sweet and light. Not sure how anyone says its not hot going down. Adding some ice to it loses some of the great flavor, but helps a lot with harshness. Torn. Over all good blended whiskey. Great flavor.

I was thoroughly disappointed with this whisky. It is very smooth, but i found it lacking any real flavor. I suppose this is to be expected of a triple distilled whisky, but I would still say that Tullamore Dew (which also happens to be triple distilled) is just as smooth but with far more taste. I would recommend this whisky to people who would like to drink whisky, but dislike the taste of whisky.

Not a fan of the blends but I saw a commercial and bit. Still not a fan . It is to harsh for my liking. There is a fairly good flavor but it is overwhelmed by the roughness.

This is an example of to much demand for this whiskey . 2 years ago this was a much more well blended whiskey. Its almost sad really, hopefully jameson can turn things around! Taste notes are nutty buttery somewhat smooth going down with a hint of wood, but not what it once was...***

Im not usually a fan of Whiskey, but this stuff is really good. The smoothest whiskey Ive tasted, quite sweet too. You dont get the harsh earthy taste that you get with most whiskies at this price range.

The aroma is mild, it literally takes a deep breathe to smell the flavors. Jameson starts sweet and finishes with a small bite down the back of your throat.
