Notes

McLain & Kyne was founded by Trey Zoeller, who claims ancestry with the McLain family, themselves bourbon distillers as far back as the 18th century. This label is owned by Castle Brands after the purchase the company in October of 2007. Much of their whiskey appears to be sourced from Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana (LDI) before bottling and blending by McLain.

This distillery is extremely proud of its very small batches that are handcrafted using only "indigenous" grains. They claim the master distiller select only 8-12 barrels of whiskey for blending this bourbon.

Jefferson's bourbon is an 8yr bourbon aged in a "metal warehouse" to "accentuate the extreme temperatures that Kentucky is blessed with." (That is, the temperatures expand and contract the whiskey in the barrel promoting contact with the oak.)

So far I've really liked everything in Jefferson's range. A tasty, easy drinking bourbon. Delicate though, so don't add water or ice or you'll water it down too much. Would really like to try this spirit at 45, or better yet, 50% abv.

It goes down pretty easy, but it's not very memorable. I probably wouldn't purchase it but I would gladly drink it if someone else was offering.

I'd give it 3.5 stars if I were able. Its only not bad. Very nice, smooth taste with very smooth aftertase. Reminds me of Woodford Reserve. Woodford is better though. Just like Woodford, don't splash this with water..water kills it. Its very worthy, but you could do better for the price.

A faint, slightly fruity aroma leads to a smooth taste that uncurls in your mouth. The flavor ends up woody and oily, more reminiscent of Scotch than bourbon. Better than average, but a little too one-note. For more reviews, including the results of our bourbon taste tests, please visit ProfessorCocktail.com.

Honestly, this is an incredible beginner bourbon. Probably the best. Its isnt priced too high and is actually subtle enough to challenge someones pallets. Very smooth bodied with a light finish. Its handles well with a bit of ice it. Pour a glass and enjoy the slow, smooth ride.
