Jim Beam White label has been down graded by Suntory Beam .I got The new Suntory Beam product. It has black band under cap that was previously white The nose is rich with vanilla, oak, honey and caramel. The entry and finish is smooth bland sweet corn Johnny One note bland sums it up now. A real tragedy of American Bourbon..Suntory Beam has upgraded Old Crow and Old Grandad 80 proof, but down graded Jim Beam White Label and Jim Beam Black Label. Jim Beam White Label for years had been 3 star well bourbon until now.

Adequate in every way and a good price. Nothing special to see here. Not quite as sweet as Evan or Jack, but a tad more complex than the others. It has elements of cherry with a touch of caramel. Great for mixing. Good for shooting (preferably chilled). Not amazing for much of anything else. I get this or Evan- they both tend to come out to $15-$18 a handle around here.

Mild but a bit sweetish woody nose. The Bourbon starts mild and woody. Vanilla hints, wood, rough alcohol. Nice woody Bourbon-flavour, but not too deep. A bit one-dimensional, but round and easy to drink. Woody-smooth Bourbon aftertaste, round and full. 2.7

Well I screwed up -please disregard the review posted directly below this one. I rated this White Label as 2 stars. Which is a GOOD RATING because this is entry level Bourbon and I am comparing it in "stars" across the whole range of Bourbons. Jim Beam makes some wonderful Bourbons and this is not one of them. Every major distiller has a product in this entry level offering. There is market share and brand recognition to be obtained here. But at the $20.00 and under level it's going to be near impossible to find 4 and 5 star Bourbon. (with one exception.) This White Label is mildly sweet with heavy Oak and a dry mouth feel. It is rather dusty and harsh. Any Rye notes are very subdued. . As with most 80 proof Bourbon any further dilution with water or ice and it flattens out to be very bland, except this remains harsh. Oh, and the exception at the $20.00 price break ? Evan Williams "Single Barrel" Vintage Bourbon.

Terrible! For a 40% alcohol spirit this tastes absurdly strong, on top of that it has the strongest grain taste I've ever had in a bourbon. Would not recommend.

I almost never drink Jim Beam (the White Label that is). Why? Because this is the harshest 80 proof spirit I've ever had. Somehow, Beam can even burn me over ice, and mind you at home I typically enjoy bourbons up to 100 proof neat and at room temperature. What flavor there is, actually isn't terrible (I can discern a little sweetness and a little bit of wood) but what I mostly get from Beam White is straight up alcohol and burn which is NOT an interesting taste experience. Even Wild Turkey Rare Breed (108 Proof) is easier for me to handle than this. If you want to try a Beam product my advice is to get Beam Black instead, which is aged for 8 years instead of 4, and is delicious (and also easy to drink). If you're too broke to spend more than $15 for a bottle of bourbon, then my pick for a really cheap bourbon would be Evan Williams, which is a bit bland, but much, much smoother than this. And if you actually like a lot of kick in your 80 proof bourbon, Old Granddad is a lot more interesting for around the same price imo.

Keep in mind that they've removed the age statement from the JB Black. It now is simply labeled "Extra Aged".

There is absolutely no reason anyone should subject themselves to this when cheap delicious bourbons like Evan 1783 and Buffalo Trace exist. The poor distillation practices at this company leave a high methanol content in the finished product, which is why almost everyone gets sick almost any time they drink almost any amount of this junk. This stuff is a blight on the great landscape of American bourbon, and it's laughable that this is what they do with the amazing ingredients available in Kentucky, talking about their handmade craftsmanship as machines pour the 25,000,000th bottle.

I decided to taste world's best selling bourbon straight out from curiously and shockingly, the time of writing this review is first time i'm giving this a try. Its VERY straightforward bourbon with bit of cherry notes which i found typical to bourbons coming out from JB. The not-so-complex flavors followed with rather significant burns tells me that this is best suited for mixing into cokes. While this product overall isn't terrible by any means, it is amazing how product that tastes like this could be the world's no.1 selling bourbon. Sorry but i even prefer Jack Daniels no.7 over this.

this one is not a good bourbon, it has a nice nose, vanilla and caramel, but when you taste it, its only alcohol, not a good taste at all, drink it with ice or mix it with coke, at least its cheap.

i just cant recommend this for the price. Evan Williams is much more complex and better tasting at half the price. For the same price there are just too many better bourbons to waste time with Jim Beam. Has a strange sweet/medicinal aftertaste that I find very off-putting

Had this at a recent event where there were no other bourbon options. On ice, it had an unpleasant finish. There are much better options for a few dollars more.

Picked up a couple 50ml bottles the other day to give this a try. Actually has a pleasant nose. Heavy on the caramel with a waft of oak. Unfortunately, the nose is the best part of this bourbon. A little vanilla and caramel followed by an odd smoky flavor. Almost an artificial smoke flavor. Very limited to no burn. Has an odd aftertaste. Hard to describe. Sour? Medicinal? Ice does little to help, as it tends to amplify the odd smoke flavor. This may be serviceable as a mixer, but there are better choices for the same or less money. In this price range I feel that Wild Turkey 81 is a better choice and for LESS money, Benchmark is MUCH better. As much as I like other Beam products, I can't believe how disappointing their flagship product is.

Being my first bourbon, I have to say Beam makes a great starter. It doesn't matter whether if you want to drink it straight or mix it it plays well either way. Sure its a little rough around the edges but its not terrible.

I understand that this bourbon is primarily used as a mixer and it likely serves well in that capacity, which is why I gave it 3.0 stars. As a bourbon to drink straight, this is a 2.0 star product, at best.

My grandmother always kept a handle of this in her cabinet. Every afternoon at 3 she would get out the bottle and pour this into a highball glass along with seltzer water. She called it "Swamp fire." This Beam is harsh as others have said. I, as a rule mix this with Coca-Cola. Even then the coke can't really cut the harshness.

Look, you dont get this bourbon to sip over rocks or to muse poetically about whether the brewer used a certain blend of grains. You get this bourbon when youve had a f----- up week and want to pound back a few Beam and Cokes on a Friday night with your buds.

This is the bourbon to consider when judging all other bourbons. I drink it on the rocks and find it to be a great everyday bourbon. This is the original straight Kentucky bourbon that should be in every home bar. A great drink from start to finish whether your drinking it neat or as a mixer you can go wrong. At around $15.00 a bottle it's a great value

This is mean whiskey. Too harsh to drink with water. They make it rough because it is meant for people who drink whiskey with cola and not feel like you are just drinking cola. $22 a handle.

Very basic stuff where bourbon is concerned, and to my mind best kept for mixing purposes. It's also about the most mass marketed bourbon there is, which almost by definition will mean it is lackluster at best. This is not the sort of thing to buy if you are genuinely curious about American whiskies and want to sample the quality of the field.

Not a good bourbon at all. The strong harsh taste of alcohol is all I can get out of this drink. Never tried with coke but like most low end drinks doing this will water it down enough to be less painful!

It's hard to love this bourbon... but look, there's nothing exactly wrong with it. It's a safe bet, it's everywhere, and you know what you're getting.

When you're on a road trip, you go to Burger King 'cause you know what you'll get. You're in a strange bar in a strange city, you do the same with Jim Beam. "Drinkable" is exactly right.
