Proof66 Notes

Jim Beam Signature Craft is a line of "craft" bourbons that is meant to take advantage of the best of Beam's large, impressive inventory of whiskey. The barrels are selected at 12 years of age, implying an oak-forward flavor of vanilla and caramel with the wood. For the 2013 launch, the Signature Craft Brandy Finished bourbon is given the same 12 years of age but then given an addition of Spanish brandy.

This whiskey is just kind of uneventful. There's nothing bad or offensive about it, but there's nothing exciting either. The nose is okay; there's some subtle fruit and oak in there. The palate has some oak spice, fruity sweetness, and some very faint bourbon characteristics. The spice and a little alcohol burn linger on the finish. I think maybe it's under proofed. If it was at around 100 proof, give or take, it might just be a flavorful pour.

The brandy overwhelms at times.

A fantastic addition to any bar - this bourbon carries a very pleasant balance between the oak and other flavors. Agree that the brandy finish opens a bit after sitting in a glass for awhile with a couple ice cubes. Worth a taste if you get the chance.

I was a Beam drinker for about 20 years. First White, then Black when it came out. have since become more of a Buffalo Trace Distillery fan. Not a fan of Bakers. Enjoy Bookers, though it is a dangerous Whiskey. This is by far the best of Beams specialty offerings. Its rank should be roughly equal to that of Angles Envy.
