Liquor Review Notes:
Johnnie Walker--the man whose name would grace the bottles of more scotch whisky than any other brand in the 21st century--wsa born in 1805 and began as a grocery store manager at age 14 in 1819. Part of the grocery business was a personal blend of whisky. Yet it was his son Alexander who took the Johnnie Walker blend of whisky to the worldwide markets in its square bottle (the first of its kind and designed to save space in shipping) in 1860. The Eyewitness Companion to Whiskey quotes brand owner Diageo claiming over 7 million casks of whisky in the maturation process at any given time. This unrivaled amount of whisky allows them great specificty and consistency in their blends and that all the scotch together is worth more than all the gold in the vaults of the Bank of England. The company was acquired by Guiness in 1985, which eventually became Diageo in a merger in 1997.

Today, Johnnie Waker offers several different "labels" of scotch whisky, designated by color. The green label is the first and most decorted of their luxury blends. It's a blend of four scotches including Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore, and Caol Ila. The combination is supposed to "evoke the freshness of the outdoors."

I can't for the life of me find the appeal of this whiskey. I like JW Black and Dbl Black but I am very disappointed in the Green. At $61 a fifth I would expect much better. A little peat, Short dry finish bordering on bitter. I've heard of fruity flavors with water. I can smell it but the flavor does not come through. For the price get 2 bottles of Black or a very good single malt.

I know I'll take heat for giving this only 3 stars. I added a little water later on to open it up and my fiancee thought I was drinking wine by the way it smelled. Very lite and not heavy on the palette. It's a nice every day blend but not my favorite out there.

I bought this one for a great price ($38) a few months ago, in part because the price was so low and I knew it would go back up. Between Gold and Green, Green is my favorite. It has bite, smokiness, that peat of Isla whiskies. It has more character than Gold, and while its a slight bit rougher, its the better pour. Think of Green as the more enthusiast version of Black. Black whets your whisky appetite if you e just getting started, and Green introduces you to the most adventurous segment of the Scotch world. If anyone is trying to decide between Green and Gold in the JW line, go for the Green. Youll save around $30, and get more dimension.

When I drink it, it makes me think of...
an interesing college lecture

It tastes best when you...
drink it with a single ice cube.

If the distiller was in front of me, I would tell him/her...
keep doing what you're doing.

Additional Comments: an adventure with every sip (and i mean that in the best sense). extraordinarily flavorful, with lasting sweet notes...blew me away!

When I drink it, it makes me think of...
Being able to go into a bar and say - scotch, neat please.

Additional Comments: Very good. Complex flavour that really leaves you wanting to try more. Would give it higher stars but I'm just not a scotch drinker, so it's hard to be completely unbias.

This thing deservedthe awards its received. It's easily the best scotch I've ever had... and that's saying something for a $50 scotch when you can pay hundreds.
