For a rye, or Canadian rye for that matter, it's a little different. Not bold, just easy going. Has some of the spice and pickle like American rye, just mellow. Better as a mixer, works well for Manhattans.

Saw this available in 50mls for a buck a piece. Had never seen it before, so I thought I'd give it a try. I had hopes for this as a "value" rye since it's around $19 for 750ml bottle in my area. Not much of a nose. A little alcohol smell and light maple syrup. Enters the palate with a mild syrupy sweetness. I detected little, if any, spiciness that I tend to associate with rye. Absolutely little to no burn. Made a decent old fashioned and also mixed well with ginger ale. Nothing special. So far every Canadian whisky I've tried lacks any type of character. For a $1/bottle I'll probably keep some 50mls on hand for travelling or quick mixing, but I don't think I'll be buying a larger bottle.

Muncher (2014-12-20):
I know Canada has a pretty shallow bench as far as whisk(e)y is concerned, but I do enjoy Crown Royal Black. You should give that one a shot. It's very "bourbony" and robust.

BDanner (2014-12-20):
Thanks for the suggestion!

I agree with BDanner completely. I bought the same sized bottle, and get the same out of the nose and the palate. This stuff is just mostly bland, easygoing nothingness. Gentleman Jack drinkers will enjoy it I suspect.
