Proof66 Notes

Laphroaig Quarter Cask scotch takes its name from the smaller casks used by to ease the burdens of pack-horses in the 19th century. The smaller casks are thought to create greater contact between spirit and wood and thus a more intense flavor; it is additionally only lightly filtered.

The scotch like I think it was meant to be, smoky, but sweet, full of complex, smooth taste with so good aftertaste that makes your mouth smacking.

Really not a lot I can add that hasn’t already been said here. NeatPour & Quetzal both have described this Malt perfectly. I do detect the same Bacon & Peanut Butter on the nose I get from Booker’s Bourbon, which I find interesting. The extra boost in ABV with only a small price increase makes this an easy choice over the standard 10 year old (which I love).

Very similar flavor profile to the standard 10 YO Laphroaig - heavy peat smoke with notes of iodine, seaweed, and medicinal flavors. One thing that makes this whisky stand out from its close relative is its intensity and approachability. I found it to be a little lighter and less intense than the 10YO. That being said, it's still not a great way to introduce someone to scotch, but in my opinion is an excellent introduction to Islay malts.

Another good scotch from Laphroaig. Was very curious to compare to 10 year. Almost did not buy this one but I noticed Laphroaig bottled this at cask strength, non chill-filtered. That made all the difference. Couldn't have been happier. If you like 10 year, then add this to the collection. Agree with Alchemist "The nose is sweet with lighter smoke than the standard 10 and a touch more woody" but I did not detect any bitterness or sour issues. Thought it brought consistent taste profile throughout. Quite a nice balance with smoke and wood. Really enjoy this especially after letting it sit in a glass for 15 minute to open up.

4.8 stars a good step up from the 10y, just rounder, softer, easier to drink. considering the price difference is compensated by an increase in abv, i pick this one over the 10y in value. update: sadly this one really lost a lot of flavor over a couple of months and became really unpleasent, no sweetness, no smoothness anymore, so horibble that i might throw it away. the oxidation hurts it big time, drink quick or fill it in smaller bottles as time goes by.

I think the previous review is spot on so I won't even try. Simplest way to put it is the 10 year with added oak influence. Fantastic malt.

(4.5 out of 5). I was hesitant to buy this because of the reviewer disparity, but NeatPour convinced me. I'm glad I did! The nose has the peat, charcoal and iodine that you get from the standard ten year, but with an additional softness with elements of toffee and (to me at least) powdered sugar. While I see the ten year as consisting of a few strong tastes that work very well together, this quarter cask has those same elements slightly toned down with additional complexities, such as toffee and a slight red wine element (though as far as I know it is not aged in wine barrels). The finish is sweet, smoky and salty. This is a fantastic, affordable whisk(e)y. Also, I'm happy to see Laphroaig bottling this at cask strength, non chill-filtered and (I think) without added color. $55 where I live.

Big reviewer disparity here that I can only attribute to different bottles? Mine tastes like the standard ten but at the end of the smokey finish there is a sweet wine influence due to the cask finishing... My peat loving friends love it. It you don't like regular ten you won't like this, if you do this is an upgrade, if you had a bad experience I'm not sure what to make of it... It just regular ten with a wine finish. Great bottle and great change of pace for the peat head

I love the regular 10yr but this is a bit over done for my taste. Not terrible but you can have too much of a good thing.

Way too strong for my taste. The smokey taste is too present for me

Woody. Old semi dank wood. Lightly filtered/not too refined taste.

Lot better than 10 year old! Quite demon for a whisky. 48% ABV does make it big and robust. Peat and tar with quite sweet taste. One of the best for sure!

An exceptional drink that delights the palate. Full flavoured with caramel and toffee notes, with a tang of peat.
