Proof66 Notes

The "Triple Wood" benefits from aging in (not surprisingly) three different cask types. Oak, ex-bourbon is the first cask, while old school quarter casks are the second resting place. The third and final home for the Triple Wood is oak, Oloroso Sherry casks.

Cheaper than the 10 year old in my area. And a little better IMO. Nipping at the heels of Lagavulin16 for the top spot among "Islays I can afford." Definitely underrated, if my bottle from 2015 represents a consistent level of quality.

My all-time favorite scotch so far! Woody, smokey, peaty and very drinkable.

4.3/5, really liked it. I wasn't able to discern dry red wine or sweeter wine whatsoever, rather the whole flavor profile fell together rather seemlessly creating a lovely rich body with laphroaig's trademark long finish. I will add that I haven't been as impressed with laga's wine finishes.... Actually this is probably the finest wine finished islay I've had to date.

Due to the low 2012 rating and the lack of reviews here, I'd say that this bottle may be one of the Scotch world's best kept secrets. It's delicious. It's like taking the Quarter Cask and dumping some thick, silky sweetness into the flavor profile. If you can find it for less than $55 buy two because the price is probably going to go up more than it has already.
