Proof66 Notes

Lexington Bourbon was first launched by Western Spirits in 2012. It is a blend of rye and malted barley along with the requisite corn grain, which we take to mean an earthy, spicy flavor profile. It is said to be inspired by "one of horse racing's most successful thoroughbred sires" named Lexington.

Inoffensive, yet unremarkable. It's just a monotone array of bourbon characteristics slightly on the youthful end of the spectrum. I wish there was more to say about it, but that's pretty much it. For $30 there are literally dozens of bourbons I would pick over this one.

I'd give it 3.5 stars but guess the extra half star goes for the price. I only found out later that its by the same makers as Bird Dog. Boy, Bird Dog is awful. This was very good. Had a nice bite to it, but very smooth going down. Reminiscent of an even more affordable Buffalo Trace. Definitely worth a try and I wouldn't hesitate to stock it again.

I was hesitant to give this a try. I discovered that Lexington's parent company is responsible for Bird Dog (one of the worst bourbons that I have tried). It had a little bite but mellowed for a smoother than expected finish. I was pleasantly surprised.

The bourbon and rye flavors are pretty good, but the barley ruins it for me. Watering it down doesn't really help as the bourbon, rye, and oak flavors disappear but the barley continues to come through. Not real good and really not worth the price. I'd pay $15 for it but not $35.
