Proof66 Notes

The Michael Collins label is owned by the Sidney Frank Importing Company, founded by entrepreneur Sideny Frank. They own a number of labels, perhaps most notably Jagermeister and Tommy Bahama rums. In March, 2013, Sidney Frank filed a lawsuit against Beam claiming they did not honor their existing supply contracts in place since 2006 (which they inherited with Cooley).

Not bad, but yes this malt tastes like blended scotch. Doesn't have the ultra smooth sweetness that the juices from Ireland are known for. I think mvg might be onto something with his comparison to Johnnie Red.

It taste like scotch and not good scotch. I would recommend this. The judges were obviously scotch snobs.

This could easily be mistaken for a blended scotch. It's a very fruit-forward nose with unmistakable peat. The sweetness is all Irish Whiskey, though. It's very, very light and tosses back easily... it has a lingering finish that I presume comes from the aging that keeps you smacking your lips for a while.  On ice, the fruit/sweet vanishes a bit and its more like garden variety whiskey. It's best foot-forward is as a sipper at room temperature but in that setting it can't compete with the pricier, top-shelf stuff. To me, it demands to be mixed.
