American Whiskey - Unaged/Moonshine
Short Mountain Distillery Shine Tennessee Moonshine
This is a Tier 2 score in the Whiskey category. It means critics have highly recommended the spirit as a benchmark in the category.
Short Mountain Shine is made from a base of 100% locally grown corn and bottled at an appropriately stiff 105 proof. Update: the new release proof is reported at 99.9.
In a positive review, the 2012 Beverage Testing Institute claimed Short Mountain had "surprisingly little heat given the proof" and called it "Impressively subtle and rather elegant."
About the Producer:
Short Mountain Distillery claims to have a good pedigree for authentic moonshining--an industry famous in Tennessee--by bringing together Rickey Estes, Jimmy Simpson, and Ronald Lawson who claim to have over 150 years of combined background in wildcat moonshining. The Short Mountain area has its own moonshine history and now lays claim to the legal distillery first launched in 2010.
