Proof66 Notes

Speyburn Bradan Orach single malt scotch is said to be named for the Gaelic translation of "golden salmon." We presume it's an homage to the river Spey which is known historically for salmon fishing.

Speyburn Distillery was founded in 1897 by John Hopkins and Company--the second distillery in their portfolio with Tobermoy Distillery. They are particularly proud of the fact that it was founded on the site of decommissioned gallows.

No age statement on the bottle, yet still declared a Single Malt, so this must be age blended -- I'd guess mostly Speyburn's 10yr with a bit of their 25yr to flesh it out, and maybe some younger to balance the price. I dare say, there's few if any others in this price range that can beat it, and plenty worse I've found at double or more the cost; for the price, this is incredibly delicious stuff. Notably richer and fuller-bodied than the Speyburn 10yr, with notes of caramel and honey flavors (not to imply sweetness) and a whiff of green apple and banana bread in the nose, and not terribly peaty or otherwise off-putting. I've happily sipped this neat, on rocks, or with club soda, where latter IMO this particularly excels -- normally, I'd say single malts are wasted on soda, but at this price I have no qualms.

Drinkable if youre not paying too much attention but not really remarkable at all. A little sweet. Not offensive at all though for the price.

For $18, its hard to go wrong. Not a great scotch, but very drinkable. Notes of honey are very welcomed.

Always a pleasure to find something like this - an undeniably delicious scotch at a fraction of the price of many comparable bottles.
