Proof66 Notes

Stranahan's Colorado whiskey was first produced in 2004 after two partners met for the first time at a barn fire. Their production is small batch where they make 12 barrels of whiskey a week and then choose only six of the twelve to use for production. It's made with barley rather than a blend of grains and we've opted to label it as "single-malt" for that reason.

This is one of the few non-Irish whiskeys that offered pleasing nuanced flavors, a moderate burn, and an after taste that called for another sip. I rarely pay $60 for whiskey. After a shot of Stranahan's, I bought two bottles.

A novelty. Good stuff with an unusual profile, but wildly overpriced.

Batch 91-Abundantly sweet. A single malt with bourbon character. Cinnamon and orange peel happily play on the nose an palate. Hints of dark chocolate, buttered caramel and honeydew are accompanied by vanilla and more spices. The wood and nut flavors are ever present but not overpowering. Toffee and butterscotch also liven things up. The finish is relatively short but just as playful. Cinnamon and citrus are still present and the wood plays a bigger role. Vanilla comes out more and if you take our time coconut and cherry with rum raisin make for a happy finish!

This us a truly unusual whiskey. The barley is there... But a lot less sweet than your typical malt whiskey like Jamesons. To me, this has an intense iodine flavor profile. Thatll be very appealing to some.. But to me, I dont like it so much. I think its a well-crafted whiskey for all that.
